Principal Security Engineer, Core Security

London | Engineering

Work on ground-breaking multiplayer titles, push the boundaries of games technology and virtual worlds, or get to grips with some of the world’s toughest security challenges. If your ambitions are high, we’ll give you the tools, support and culture to take them even higher.

At Improbable, we believe that the next revolution in entertainment and society will come from massive virtual worlds. They’ll create new economies and opportunities globally, changing not just how we play, but how we work and relate to each other. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to build the next generation of technologies for online multiplayer games and simulations.

At Improbable, you’re surrounded by people who want to improve everything and everyone around them, and who compel you to improve yourself. We’re motivated by the fulfilment of solving hard problems to achieve something profound and transformative.

Your Mission

As a Principal Engineer at Improbable you'll be responsible for working on tougher, more complex problems, in a breadth manner being a true leader in technical understanding across multiple teams. You will have worked in places that support large numbers of users and understand how to get us there and can articulate the differences between those systems and our requirements.

You'll be focused on enabling our colleagues and customers to run their games safely, scalably and effectively with our platform and services. You’ll grow other engineers and the wider business in the appreciation of security as a business enabler and a shared concern for all. Using your experience with product and cloud security, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the businesses strategy for both platform and product security, as well as handling security incidents, whenever they occur.

You will use your experience to help shape our platform architecture and allow Improbable to build safe and secure products.

Working on existing critical services to the business, you'll find ways to extend and improve the security aspects of our product offering. You’ll be involved both from early ideas (identifying gaps in designs) through to deployment and long term usage for a service or solution.

Working cross-functionally across multiple teams, you’ll become an evangelist for all things security related, aiming to foster and encourage a culture across the business that security is important to everyone, and why. You’ll take opportunities to promote this culture where you find it, from your work on pull requests to direct interactions with engineers.

You’ll bring your experience to quickly grasp the security landscape here and develop a shared prioritization with key stakeholders to allow them to understand the importance of the work you advocate for while understanding other business pressures.

Your Impact

  • Provide a robust platform to run online games at large scale, enabling developers to focus on creating amazing game content
  • Offer a seamless local to hybrid cloud transition, so that moving to production happens without surprises
  • Build our platform with security as a primary concern
  • Deliver a purpose-built game hosting and operating platform, building services and technology that help our customers run games for millions of players across the globe, leveraging the cost-efficiency of bare metal and flexibility of the cloud through a single provider.

  • Supporting our customers directly, including our own internal game studios and the 15+ games already running on our platform, partnering up with some of the leading game developers in the world to help build their game on our technology.

  • Experience securing on large scale distributed systems.
  • Experience securing APIs
  • Experience securing with Cloud Infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, Azure or any other large scale cloud platforms.
